Congratulations! It will be great to see Lord Yamada in novel form, and the novel is apparently based on one of my favorite Yamada stories, "Moon Viewing at Shijo Bridge."

For fans of the stories, a new Lord Yamada tale, "Lady of the Ghost Willow," will be appearing in BCS this fall.

"The Six Skills of Madame Lumiere" by Marissa Lingen: "The narrative voice is fresh, the Rust Lords make an interesting addition to the usual fairy cast, and there is some nice fantasy scenery."

"The Isthmus Variation" by Kris Millering: "What is truly fantastic is the meticulously crafted, highly mannered setting and the details of the Slow Game (theatrical performance) itself."
"The Territorialist" by Yoon Ha Lee: "A powerful imaginative creation, with a strong narrative voice as a foil that makes the intensely oppressive atmosphere bearable, increasing its interest."

"Throwing Stones" by Mishell Baker: "a lovely fantasy, mannered and sensuous. There is also a subtle subtext about the nature of gender roles that rouses echoes of our own culture."

Hi,

I have questions about BCS's policy regarding stories that have previously been rejected by BCS.

1. Does BCS accept stories that have been rejected before if they have undergone significant revisions?

2. If resubmissions are allowed, how long of a wait would you recommend before resubmission--A year? Six months? More/Less?

Thanks for any help you can provide in this area.

So.
SF has The Year's Best Science Fiction (edited by Gardner Dozois). It is an amazing research tool for figuring out what's going on in short SF fiction.

The question: Does the Fantasy genre have a yearly collection of similar quality?

I've searched through Chapters/Coles and seen many collections but nothing leaps out as 'the one.'

Suggestions?

"To Kiss the Granite Choir" by Michael Anthony Ashley, from BCS #27-28, got a great review in Abigail Nussbaum's review of 2009 short fiction in Strange Horizons (at the bottom of the page).

Among other high praise, she said "To Kiss the Granite Choir" was notable among short fiction "for being a fully, even elaborately realized secondary world fantasy."

Nussbaum also nominated "To Kiss the Granite Choir" for a Hugo Award for Best Novella.

Congratulations, Michael!
